TimeLapse
I have always been interested in time lapse photography. We have all seen them, clouds rolling across the landscape, flowers opening, sunspots moving across the solar disk, and many more besides. There is a new application available called TimeLapse that allows you to take time lapse sequences using the 3 megapixel camera in the newly released iPhone 3GS.
Check out this sample sequence. The requirements for time lapse photography are: 1) a suitable subject (obviously), 2) a solid stable platform (good to high quality tripod) and 3) a regularly spaced sequence of still photographs. The TimeLapse app provides the software for timing the series of photos, so it is up to you to identify a suitable subject and provide the stable platform. Another possible requirement, dependent upon the period of time over which your time lapse sequence will be shot may be a power source for your iPhone 3GS, either plug in your iPhone charger or have a battery add on.
If time lapse photography interests you, pick up the Timelapse app by Xyster.net ($2 through the App Store) and experiment with a variety of subjects - clouds over landscapes, snow melting and flowers offer great possibilities, any subject material that remains fixed in one spot but shows evidence of a change over time.
Good luck and have fun!
Note: the iPhone 3GS does not have suitable filters nor the capability for recording the movement of sunspots across the solar disk.
